Alpacas and llamas can contract many of the same diseases as sheep and goats however there are currently no vaccinations licensed. Clostridial diseases can be fatal for your herd including tetanus, botulism and pulpy kidney. We recommend that all herds should be vaccinated annually. Ideally vaccinations should be planned so that pregnant females are vaccinated 4-6 weeks prior to unpacking to ensure that maternal antibodies are passed to the newborn cria via the colostrum. Crias should then be vaccinated from 3 weeks of age.
