At Lisnafillan, we believe fertility is a key factor in the success of both dairy and beef herds.
We offer regular, routine herd visits using ultrasound scanning to assess the reproductive health of cows after calving, ensuring they are ready for breeding and ID any potential problem breeders.
We can detect pregnancies as early as 28 days post-service and identify empty cows, allowing for timely treatment or synchronisation. Embryo sexing can be carried out at 56 – 90 days. Twins can be accurately detected below 90days.
Additionally, we perform reproductive tract scoring on heifers to optimise conception rates.
Poor fertility can significantly affect farm profitability by increasing the number of days cows are open, leading to lost milk production, fewer replacement heifers, and lower weaning weights. An increased calving interval can cost £5.00 per cow per day. Therefore, for a 100-cow herd, a 10 day increase in the herd calving interval can lead to £5000 of lost profit! We work closely with Total Vet and Interherd to identify fertility trends.
